All Good Things Must Come to An End!
It’s the last weekend of Heritage Week 2018, but don’t draw the curtain yet, there’s still lots for everyone to enjoy this weekend. Here’s a preview of some of the free events happening around Ireland on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 August.
Saturday 25 August, 4pm - 6pm, Ballyfarnon Community Enterprise Group lTD, Crescent Ballyfarnon, Co. Roscommon
Stories from the Fair Day in Ballyfarnon, these stories were collected by the school children of the parish of Kilronan and the neighbouring schools from their grandparents about the Fair Day.
Saturday 25 August, 2pm - 5pm, Dundoan, Downings, F92 YW57, Co. Donegal
A chance to see inside the cottage and here the history of the Pilots of Mulroy Bay. Explore the shoreline and maybe see some local wildlife! Please note access is by foot down a grassy path.

Curragh Local History Group Open Day is an opportunity to visit the Groups museum and discover many fascinating artefacts relating to the rich history of the Curragh Camp.

Enter the Viking tent to encounter objects and crafts from the Viking era!
Saturday 25 August, 2pm - 5pm, Earthen Building UK and Ireland (EBUKI), The Leitrim Design House, The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim
Niall Miller will give a hands-on demonstration of wattle and daub building. See and learn how people in the past made warm eco-homes using local hazel, willow, bamboo, straw and daub.
Wildflowers in Carn Ard Park Meadow
Saturday 25 August, 11am - 1pm, Westside Youth Project (Youth Work Ireland, Galway) start at Corrach Buí Centre, Westside, Co. Galway
Dan Clabby (Conservation Volunteers Galway) will facilitate a close-up look at the wildflower meadow, to engage our curiosity for the natural world around us, as it varies over the seasons and years.
Saturday 25 August, 4pm - 5pm, Irish Workhouse Centre, Co. Galway
Lecture on eighteenth century newspaper reports from County Galway, followed by the launch of a limited free booklet on 'One hundred County Galway newspaper articles from the eighteenth century'.
Launch of a Restored Foyle Ferry

Launch of the St. Anthony a restored Mc Donald built traditional boat, a Foyle Ferry and Salmon boat donated by the Kelly Family restored by master boatbuilder, Brian Mc Donald by Moville Men's Shed
Whale Watch Ireland Nationwide Tours

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group invites you to their annual, free and guided land-based whale watch at a local headland in locations nationwide, as part of All-Ireland Whale Watch day.

A weekend of iron smelting and forging! Local iron ore, charcoal and clay will be used to make iron in the area for the first time in nearly 250 years.

Umha Aois annual experimental archaeology symposium with demonstrations of casting and smelting experiments by archaeologists and sculptors, making Bronze and Iron Age horns with authentic methods.
Medieval Show and Storytelling

Join an exhibition of Medieval Magic and Weaponry Display at Donegal Castle.

Join local Community Water Officer, Kieran Murphy wading in the river to survey for and identify aquatic invertebrates, which can indicate if a river or stream is healthy. Great fun!
Water Life in a Pristine River
