National Heritage Week 2025 (16-24 August) is the perfect chance to explore Ireland’s cultural, built and natural heritage together as a family.

From hands-on workshops to nature walks and historical demonstrations, there is something for everyone this year under the theme ‘Exploring Our Foundations.’ We have rounded up the top family-friendly Heritage Week events across the country that will entertain and educate everyone from toddlers to senior adults.

A Donkey's Eye View at Sathya Sai Donkey Sanctuary, Sligo

Step back in time to discover the role of the donkey in Ireland's heritage, try traditional crafts and explore a working farmstead.

Bandon Walled Town Festival 2025, Cork

From re-enactments and archaeological digs to harp recitals and circus performances, this festival honours Bandon’s past from its 17th-century origins to its diverse present.

Battle of the Boyne, Meath

Meet costumed guides from Laoch Living History and relive the 17th century through interactive displays with musketeers, gunners, blacksmiths and more. You can also join the battlefield walk at 2 PM to learn about the tactics and stories from historic Irish battles.

Aithnítear i nGradaim na Seachtaine Oidhreachta Náisiúnta 2025 obair eagraithe imeachtaí na Seachtaine Oidhreachta Náisiúnta ó thaobh imeachtaí a chruthú agus a chur ar siúl ina dtugtar chun solais ár n-oidhreacht thógtha, nádúrtha agus chultúrtha a thit amach fud fad na hÉireann i rith na Seachtaine Oidhreachta Náisiúnta.


Saothraíonn eagraithe imeachtaí ó áiteanna ar fud na hÉireann a bpaisean agus a saineolas gach bliain le heispéiris nach ligfear i ndearmad agus spreagúla a chruthú don phobal i rith na Seachtaine Oidhreachta Náisiúnta. Thit breis agus 2,500 imeacht amach in 2025 fud fad na tíre de réir mar a ghlac pobail le cuireadh na Comhairle Oidhreachta téama na bliana seo ‘Ár mBunchlocha a Fhiosrú’ a fhiosrú. Tugtar chun solais sna himeachtaí seo comhthiomantas d’oidhreacht na hÉireann a chaomhnú agus a cheiliúradh.

Tá gliondar croí orainn na himeachtaí a cuireadh ar an ngearrliosta a fhógairt i measc roinnt catagóirí gradaim, a léiríonn gach ceann díobh rannchuidiú as cuimse le hoidhreacht na hÉireann.

Fógrófar buaiteoirí na gcatagóirí uile ag searmanas Ghradaim na Seachtaine Oidhreachta Náisiúnta an 17 Deireadh Fómhair 2025, a dhéanfar a shruthú beo ar heritageweek.ie. Táimid ag tnúth le hiarrachtaí dochreidte iad siúd a cheiliúradh atá tiomanta d’oidhreacht na hÉireann a chaomhnú agus a chur chun cinn.
