Conservation of a Chinese Silk Hanging: Buddhas of the Three Generations
- Co. Baile Átha Cliath
Buddhas of the Three Generations was made in China’s imperial textile workshops in the mid-18th century, during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (r. 1735-1796), who was devoted to Tibetan Buddhism. Due to its fragile condition, it has not been possible to display this object to date. However, thanks to support from the Heritage Council, it is being conserved from July to October 2024.
We have added a blog about this textile to our project website and will be adding another blog about the ongoing conservation efforts during Heritage Week. We are organizing a closed workshop to share the conservation process with local Chinese and Buddhist community members and to receive their input (invitation only).
The conserved object will be on view at the Chester Beatty next spring in 2025.
Follow this exciting conservation project on our website and social media.
