Dublin & Blessington Steam Train - 17th-25th August 2024

Blessington History Society is hosting an Exhibition on the Dublin & Blessington Steam Tram (1882-1930). This unique railway was a vital transport network linking Dublin and Blessington in the latter part of the 19th and early part of the twentieth century. It tells the story of this Tram system between Terenure in Dublin and Blessington and Poulaphouca in West Wicklow.

A unique collection of historical photographs, documents, illustrations and memorabilia are showcased in this carefully curated Exhibition. This 19th century tram network helped to forge strong links between the one-time villages of Terenure, Templeogue and Tallaght in South Dublin and Blessington and Poulaphouca in West Wicklow.

Working with our Society Members and heritage Interpretative designers Eamon Sinnott & Partners, Naas - this exhibition through the designers’ unique 3D Illustration work and heritage interpretation design skills, trams, locomotives, carriages and Tram Stations have been authentically re-created carefully capturing the romance of steam travel in a bygone era and the industrial archaeology of this Tramline.

The exhibition is aimed at the general public and those with an interest in local history. It is a must see for all school going children who will learn about a strategic tram system from the rural agricultural uplands of County Wicklow into the heart of Dublin City.

Blessington History Society welcomes everyone on board to travel with us on this remarkableand exciting historical Journey
