'Cascade' - Laneway Trail, Ballina

17 - 25 Lúnasa, 7rn - 9in

  • Ballina town centre
  • Co. Maigh Eo

Cascade is funded by Creative Ireland and aims to explore how the laneways of our historic town centres can adapt to cope with increased rainfall from climate change. Many of the impacts of climate change in Ireland are linked with water, with predictions of more intense storms, water quality deterioration, and the potential for summer water shortages.

Laneways can be points of connection and pedestrian routes between busy streets and places for social and commercial opportunities. All residents of Ballina, Co. Mayo are invited to take part in a series of events and creative workshops throughout 2024 and 2025 to share their experiences of water and public space in the town, and explore how laneways can become a connected trail of climate-resilient, shared spaces that celebrate water.

The Cascade team have created a 'Laneway Trail' in six locations in Ballina - Kathleen Lynn lane, Moy lane, Pawn Office lane, O'Horas lane and two beside the River Moy. The 'Storymaps' reflect what we were told by residents of Ballina in our initial questionnaire and first workshops.

Each map has a QR code that you can scan for a series of activities along our laneway trail. We also have post-boxes where you can share a story about a laneway, or suggestions on how it could be improved.

To take part online you can follow the link below to view our 'StoryMaps' and submit your stories about the laneways or suggestions on how they can be improved.
