Ballyshannon's Global Connections
Connecting our Future to the Past.
Ballyshannon's Mall Quay takes centre stage for a different take on its incredible history and we explore, as a community, the future for the area. A family fun day including history kayak tours, scavenger hunts and nautical crafts for young and old fill our afternoon. Evening time will be filled with talks and music till late.
1pm - History paddle - A unique way to take in the Mall Quay's history. Where the Erne river meets the Atlantic Ocean, a vital link to the whole world. Join kayak instructor Ronan Shaw and historian Dr Angela Byrne on a gentle paddle of discovery.
3pm - 6pm - Nautical Crafternoon - A family fun filled afternoon with crafts, games and demonstrations. Let the Quays history come alive. Skilled craftspeople talk about boatbuilding, mending nets and tying flies. Little ones activities - colour in a trading ship, get sailor "tattoos" or make their own ancient Ballyshannon artefact!
Bring a picnic, grab a coffee. See some regeneration plans and enjoy the afternoon by the water.
6.30pm - Ballyshannon's Global Connections - Join Dr Angela Byrne at Mall Quay for a walking tour delving into Ballyshannon's connections of trade and emigration. Angela will share her expertise as author of the forthcoming Irish Historic Towns Atlas of Ballyshannon, bringing you back in time to Ballyshannon's heyday as a bustling port. The walk concludes at McIntyre's Saloon for the launch of the exhibition, 'The Mall Through Time' accompanied by music.
