In this talk, Dr.Róisín Donohoe, NLI will discuss the recently catalogued personal correspondence of Anglo-Irish civil servant and philanthropist Stephen Edmund Spring Rice (1814–1865) and his family. Focusing on the women in Spring Rice’s life, this talk will highlight networks of aristocratic female communication and negotiating Anglo-Irish identity in the shadow of the Famine.
Stephen Edmund Spring Rice was an Anglo-Irish civil servant and philanthropist, the heir to Thomas Spring Rice, 1st Baron Monteagle of Brandon (d. 1866).
