
Foundations in Communities: What does Michael Davitt mean to me?
The Michael Davitt Museum are delighted to be partnering with Foxford & District Alzheimer Trust – FACT Social Club for National Heritage Week 2025.
NB: This workshop is specially reserved for members of the Foxford & District Alzheimer Trust – FACT Social Club.
The workshop is funded with the support of Mayo County Council and The Heritage Council.
Project Overview:
1. Celebrate Michael Davitt’s Contribution to Irish Society: This event will provide an opportunity to reflect on Davitt’s significant impact on Irish society, particularly his tireless advocacy for the poor and dispossessed.
2. Enhance Cultural Identity: As a key advocate for the Irish people, Davitt’s actions continue to shape Ireland’s identity today. The event will offer an opportunity for reflection on how museums and communities can work together to preserve and curate cultural heritage in rapidly changing communities.
Event Format:
The event will consist of a multifaceted approach that includes:
• Educational talk: A talk delivered on the history of Michael Davitt and how he campaigned for social justice to help the dispossessed.
• Educational art workshop: Interactive focusing on Michael Davitt’s legacy and the role of museums in shaping social consciousness.
• Exhibition: This work will culminate in an online exhibition featuring the work created by those attending.
• Discussion: At the end of the day attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on what the day meant for them and how connecting with museums and history can bring about meaningful experiences.
