
Walk in the Footsteps of the Lough Eske friars
Walk in the footsteps of the Franciscan friars that once inhabited Lough Eske, learning about important historical sites along the picturesque route.
The walk will include talks from locals about the monastic Friary from which a local townland took its name, the site of one of their cells and the O’Donnell Island prison site.
It will be followed by a talk at Harvey’s Point hotel by local historian Helen Meehan, music by local musicians and light refreshments.
You will be guided through this 5km heritage trail by knowledgeable local speakers, hearing about the locality's rich built, cultural and oral history.
The walk will start and finish at Harvey’s Point hotel (Eircode: F94 E771), meeting at 6.30pm on Friday 22 August 2025 and is suitable for all ages.
A voluntary donation of €10 per adult will be used for future heritage events and community initiatives.
