In the 18th century Ireland enjoyed several decades of peace for the first time in its history. Among other benefits there were major improvements in the national roads network, the first tolled roads and the first published road atlas. There would have been thousands of milestones along the public roads but only a handful of them survives today.
This event will tell the story of a group of nine milestones in South Galway, how they were rediscovered and conserved; and will look more broadly at transport and travel in 18th century Ireland.
Light refreshments available and opportunity to chat to members of the Ardrahan Heritage group and find out more about planned projects for the group and Labane Ardrahan Community Development Association.
