Traditional Cobbling and Historic Paving Workshop
Traditional Cobbling demonstration and Historic Paving Talk.
Traditional cobbling and paving once covered all our streets and yards and formed an integral part of our working spaces and streetscapes.
Join us for an informative cobbling demonstration and talk on historic paving at Stradbally Hall during heritage week on Wednesday 20th August from 10:30am to 2pm.
James Byrne Built Heritage Consultant and Archaeologist (Southgate Associates) will discuss the role and materials of historic paving at Stradbally hall and in our towns and cities. Expert Craftsman and Master Plasterer Damien Condon (CALX) will explain the uses and production of lime mortar and cobbling repairs. This will be followed by a hands on demonstration of traditional cobbling and repair in the historic stable yards of the 18th century Stradbally Hall. Participants will have an opportunity to try their hand at cobbling.
This event and the cobbling repair project this year are possible due to a Heritage Council Traditional Farm Buildings Grant. Stradbally Hall is a proud member of the Historic Houses of Ireland (https://www.ihh.ie/) Teas and Coffees will be available. Parking is also available. Toilets are available on site.
