Traditional Achill Basket Weaving Workshop

Traditional Basket Weaving Workshop will take place 10 am to 4 pm and will be recorded as part of our Kildownet community’s celebration of Heritage Week 2026. This event celebrates the tradition of making Turf Cleaves/Pardógs, Potato Baskets etc in the area. In the past every farm grew the willow rods to make these baskets for carrying turf and seaweed.

While the workshop will be delivered in English, locals will be able to tell the group about the tradition and the importance of these resources to survival in the KIldownet area in past years before mechanisation. The workshop will be documented through videography for archival purposes in our community.
