Just 10km from Newbridge and Kildare and 15km from Naas, this magnificent tower was built in 1859 by Sir Gerald George Aylmer. The tower commands extensive views of the surrounding countryside. The Hill of Allen is a volcanic hill surrounded by the Bog of Allen. The Hill of Allen rises to a height of approximately 676 ft. The Tower is also known as ‘Alymer’s Folly’ and it rises to approximately 60 ft. from the base, it has an internal diameter of approximately 9 ft. The tower is built of limestone and has an internal staircase leading to the top where you enter the upper platform. The names of the men and women who built the tower are inscribed on each step.
