22 Lúnasa, 2in - 5:30in

  • Co. Ciarraí

The Lyreacrompane Heritage Trail is a series of local heritage sites along the 5k length of road going through totally rural Lyreacrompane. They comprise or carry information about such things as a Lime Kiln which we have returned to perfect order A Mural on the gable of the last forge in our area depicting the work there in olden times. Large information signs telling the story of the first school in the area, now slipping into ruin and one outlining the story of a rural RIC Barracks which operated from the early 1880s to 1920 and the story of the lease of the farm it stands on dating to 1743.

The story of Bord na Mona in Lyreacrompane is told the 'Tip' where the turf was tipped from loco wagons into lorries. The site of the matchmaker's dancehall also has an extensive information board. The Tour take in a wide preserved/described aspect of rural Lyreacrompane and has taken a few years to put in presentable order. We are delighted that the Kerry Historical and Archaeological Society has made this tour on of their outings for 2026.

The coach picks up and drops off in Listowel.
