Tour of Grenane House and Gardens in Association with Historic Houses of Ireland
The Mansergh family have continuously lived in Grenane House since 1700, making it one of the oldest lived in houses by the same family in Ireland. The lands of Grenane now comprise 350 acres set in the Golden Vale, on which a stud farm is run by the present owner’s two sons.
Both Grenane House and its gardens are protected. The gardens are home to Ireland’s only Hazel Nut Arch in addition to a beech walk with nearly every variety of beech in existence. Notably all of the plasterwork in the house is completely original and unaltered.
The front windows are by James Wyatt and there are mantelpieces by both James Adam and Bossi. Among the more modern touches is a beautiful playroom completely hand-painted by Marion McDonnell of Tipperary depicting “The Mice of Brambley Hedge”. Grenane is a proud member of Historic Houses of Ireland.
