Open Day at St Eunan's Cathedral Raphoe

St. Eunan’s Church of Ireland Cathedral is located on the Diamond in Raphoe, Co. Donegal. It is situated on the site of an ancient Christian monastic settlement, probably founded by the locally born Saint Columba. The Cathedral is named after another saint, Adomnan, or Eunan, a cousin of Columba, who was born in Raphoe in 634AD.

It was from here, that Columba, and Eunan, both travelled to Scotland and England, and spread the Christian faith to these lands. Eunan died on the 23rd September 704, and it is reputed that his remains were returned to Raphoe, and buried where the cathedral now stands.

The cathedral is a multi-layered building of great antiquity and interest. The fabric contains significant architectural features dating from the thirteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteen centuries, along with fragments of ninth-century and fifteenth-century work.

St. Eunan’s Cathedral is a building of enormous ecclesiastical and architectural significance and its ancient heritage is of national importance.

Come join us on our Open Day comprising 'Tours and Teas' on Friday 21st August 2026, 12 noon to 3pm. Guided tours will be available throughout the afternoon, and complimentary tea/coffee/traybakes will be available. Everyone is most welcome.
