The society presents a very interesting talk by Tony Hand on the White Quarry of Ardbraccan, where the old limestone quarry was mined for over 600 years and whose stone was used all over Ireland in many famous landmark buildings.
Tony Hand, PhD, is an Irish researcher and project manager whose work spans sustainable mining, geological innovation, and the history of art and architecture.
The White Quarry of Ardbaccan was the topic of his MA thesis at UCD, which was published in 2005 in the Irish Architectural and Decorative Studies Volume VIII, the annual journal of the Irish Georgian Society.
