Boyne Currach Centre Open for the week - all welcome!
Events to include:
Traditional currachs on display, including reconstructed Boyne currachs built using ancient techniques.
Boatbuilding workshops, where craftspeople demonstrate how the wicker framework is woven and covered, explaining the materials and methods used thousands of years ago.
The story of Neolithic travel, exploring how waterways like the River Boyne connected communities and may have been used to transport people, livestock, and even the massive stones used to build monuments such as Newgrange.
Traditional craft demonstrations, covering skills such as woodworking, weaving, rope making, and other heritage crafts associated with currach construction.
Interactive experiences, where visitors may have opportunities to handle materials, ask questions of builders, or take part in introductory workshops, depending on the day's programme.
Links to the wider Boyne Valley heritage, showing how the currach fits into the archaeology and landscape of the UNESCO World Heritage area.
Arts & Crafts for children based around the theme of the Boyne Currach
