The Sacred Heart Convent At Risk

The Roscrea Women's Shed would like to show two videos created by two of its members; one entitled "Time on Her Hands" which is an oral history interview with Rose Marie Doyle who taught in the Sacred Heart Convent in Roscrea until it amalgamated to become the Coláiste Phobal in 1999. This first video is 45 minutes in length.

The second video which is 25 minutes long covers the history of the building itself and the state of dereliction it fell into following the departure of the last remaining nuns in 2009.
Since then, the convent building has been extensively renovated by Hibernian Suites and repurposed as a Ukrainian refugee centre. However, the EU Temporary Protection Directive is due to expire in March 2027 and the future of this historic landmark is yet again at risk.
