The Long Ridge – Exploring the Songs, Stories, Music and Heritage of Dromod

Join Fionnuala Maxwell and The Leitrim Larks for a unique Heritage Week walking tour through the village of Dromod. Discover the rich history, music, songs, stories and folklore that have shaped this Shannon-side community as the walk stops at places of historical and cultural significance throughout the village.

Drawing on local memories, archive recordings, poetry, songs and live music, The Long Ridge celebrates the people, places and traditions that have helped shape Dromod's rich cultural heritage. The walk concludes with a traditional music session in The Copper Still, led by The Mulligan Family, whose deep musical roots in the area continue a living musical tradition. This closing session forms part of The Station Sessions, a Leitrim Larks initiative celebrating music, heritage and place.

The Long Ridge is supported by Leitrim Heritage Office, in association with Leitrim County Council and The Heritage Council. The Station Sessions is supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Local Festivals and Summer Schools Scheme 2026.

Please come prepared for the Irish weather! Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing suitable for the conditions. The walk will proceed rain or shine unless weather conditions are considered unsafe.

The route is mostly level and follows footpaths, public roads and paved surfaces through the village. As the walk includes road crossings, we ask all participants to take care and follow the guidance of the organisers.

Children are very welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the walk.
