When the Royal Irish Constabulary was disbanded in 1922, some 8,000 Irish-born members were left with uncertain futures in the recently partitioned Ireland. With a particular focus on south Offaly and adjoining areas of north Tipperary, this talk will examine the process of disbandment, its immediate consequences, and the range of experiences faced by Irish-born ex-RIC and their families after 1922.
Join Dr. Brian Hughes from Mary Immaculate College as we explore this dimension of our history.
All welcome and light refreshments afterwards.
