The Big Dig Wild Child Day

Join us on at Cabragh Wetlands in Thurles for our Big Dig and Bread Making Workshops this Heritage Week 2026 .Join us on the 22nd August at Cabragh Wetlands in Thurles for family fun and entertainment this summer. Throughout the day we will be exploring the past with our mobile Viking House Excavation Workshop - The Big Dig and our interactive and informative Bread Making Workshop! The Bread Making is a drop-in event so no need for tickets, however, tickets for the can be booked online now! This event is organised in collaboration with The Heritage Council and Tipperary County Council for Heritage Week 2026.

The School of Irish Archaeology is proud to introduce their finest product the Big Dig! The replica ‘Viking House’ workshop and excavation is designed around children from 6 – 12 years of age.

Bread Making Workshop

Families and children can partake in our educational, informative, hands-on and engaging workshop where they will learn about how bread was integral to the development of human societies. Alongside our display table of artefacts associated with the production of food we will This workshop is a drop-in activity run throughout the day. We ensure this educational and one of a kind experience won’t leave your children disappointed. We guarantee it will leave them wanting to know much more about the work of archaeologists and who our ancient ancestors were!
