The Archaeological Photographs of Robert Welch & William Green.

An illustrated talk on the photography of Belfast based Robert J. Welch and William A. Green. Robert Welch, who was official photographer to Harland and Wolff, was appointed official photographer to Queen Victoria in 1900, and photographer for the Board of Works. William Green was an apprentice to Welch, and reproduced many of the same views a few decades later. Both men took important early photographs of megalithic monuments across the length and breadth of Ireland, including the first photos of the great passage-grave cemetries of Carrowmore, Carrowkeel, Loughcrew and Newgrange.
