Talk - Our Native Irish Bees

Join us for a talk by local beekeeper David Geoghegan on our native Irish Bees, on Wednesday 19th August at 7.30pm in the Oughterard Courthouse.

Ireland's native honey bee has evolved and adapted over thousands of years, making it uniquely suited to our changeable oceanic climate. While there are 99 species of bees in Ireland, there is only one native honey bee. It continues to survive both in the wild and in hives cared for by beekeepers.

More than just an important pollinator, the native honey bee plays a vital role in supporting Ireland's biodiversity and the health of our natural ecosystems. It also holds a special place in our cultural heritage, having been closely connected with the traditions, folklore, and rural life of Ireland for centuries.
