It Started with Steam - What's Next?
Join your local Sustainable Energy Communities mentor on a journey through time at the fascinating Steam Museum in Straffan, Co Kildare. See how steam energy was used to power the engines of these magnificent locomotives… Watch a demonstration of steam powered electric lighting & see an original & unique solar panel. Also on show in the Model Hall are samples from the first transatlantic cable laid between Valencia Island and Newfoundland
Come along in time for ‘Steam up’, which happens between 2 & 4, when the stationary engines are run by a team of dedicated volunteers. Hear the story of The Michael Owens Power Hall, which was relocated, brick by brick from Dublin. Enjoy a coffee from our ‘Barista bike’, which is run on pedal power only, or have a wander around the beautiful 18th Century walled garden.
We will also guide a conversation on ‘future energy’ - what does the future of travel look like? How will we power our trains and cars? What will we use to power our grid? Join this interesting conversation on re building our energy foundations at this special place in Straffan.
