Exploring Our Energy Foundations
Having started their sustainable energy journey, the Heritage Centre in Kildare town will host a talk by local SEAI sustainable energy community mentor on Improving Energy Efficiency in Traditional Buildings. The talk will be based on the recent study on this important sector by the National Built Heritage Service. Taking new guidance to support energy efficiency upgrades in traditional buildings, the talk is primarily aimed at owners and occupiers of traditional buildings, both residential and non-residential, who want to increase the comfort of these buildings while reducing their energy usage, energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions. The guidance will also assist in the regeneration of traditional buildings in our cities, towns, and countryside, enabling the reuse of vacant traditional buildings.
The study provides practical advice to specifiers and installers on how to make the right decisions when undertaking retrofitting works in traditional buildings. It explains how traditional buildings work, how to assess their performance, and how to plan for climate change. Advice is given on options for upgrading the different elements of the building fabric, and what to take into consideration when upgrading existing services or choosing a new energy system, including renewable energy, for a traditional building.
Special care is required when undertaking energy upgrade works to traditional buildings. This talk will assist specifiers; installers and the owners and occupiers of traditional buildings increase energy efficiency in ways that protect the character of their traditional building. Come along & see how to begin the journey.
