Song and Stories from Dublin Docks
Step into the heart of Dublin’s maritime past with Songs and Stories from Dublin Docklands, a special Heritage Week event that brings the voices of the docks to life through powerful storytelling and live music.
Hosted by Dublin Port Company in the historic Substation, this evening will explore the human stories behind the city’s industrial waterfront — tales of hardship, humour, solidarity, and song.
Playwright Gary Brown, whose father worked the docks, will reflect on the real-life experiences that inspired his acclaimed production Dockers: Songs and Stories of Dublin Docks. He’ll discuss the role of theatre and music in preserving working-class heritage and the unique culture that once defined the docklands.
The event will feature live performances by George Murphy, starring in The Dockers and The Buttonmen, who will bring selected songs to life in an intimate, stripped-back setting.
