Scoil Síleann

First half. Lecture on the place name lore of County Cavan by Seán Ó hUltacháin. The first half of the lecture is a result of Seán spending several weeks studying the Irish names of more than 2000 placenames of County Cavan and the results of his research will be discussed. The second half will be on the topic of the Dinnseanchas records relating to the county. He will detail the stories that are found in this ancient record about local places got their names according to this ancient Irish tradition which goes back over 1000 years or more.

Second half. Barry Reilly will give a performance of tunes on a copy he made himself of the 500-year-old Trinity College Harp and use of the ancient Gaelic style of playing which he has studied. He will discuss the history and story of how he made his harp.
