Dublin Port handles around 50 ship movements and 11,000 vehicle movements every day, making safety a critical element of its operations. In this talk, Captain Michael McKenna, Harbour Master at Dublin Port, will explore the development of Dublin SafePort, a pioneering initiative that has brought together Dublin Port Company, terminal operators and key stakeholders to create a shared, port-wide approach to safety.

Launched in 2022, Dublin SafePort has transformed collaboration across the port estate by aligning safety procedures, promoting awareness, and embedding a common safety culture. In 2024, the initiative received international recognition when it was awarded the International Harbour Masters Association's Safe, Efficient & Secure Port Award, acknowledging Dublin Port as a global leader in collaborative port safety.

The lecture will examine how partnership, leadership and innovation have strengthened safety across one of Europe's busiest ferry and freight ports, while supporting the continued growth and development of Dublin Port.
