Come learn about the Invasive Species of County Cavan, the importance of biosecurity and actions to tackle their spread and impact on the banks of Lough Sheelin at Crover House this Water Heritage Day.

The event will cover core invasive species in County Cavan with some of course with national importance also, some discussion on the Local Biodiversity Action Fund (LBAF) projects in the county that includes a survey on Invasives in the nearby lake and how this contributes to the in-development biodiversity action plan for the county as well as a kick sampling display of freshwater invertebrates from a nearby stream documenting the importance of good biosecurity, citizen science and the clean, check, dry ethos.

Industry experts will be present including Kate Moore, engagement officer in the NBDC (National Biodiversity Data Centre) Invasive Species pathway team as well as the County Cavan Biodiversity Officer Cathal Flood and Westmeath Biodiversity officer Christina Sweeney. The event is open to all and very relevant to those in the environmental, agricultural, tourism, angling, recreational and community sector locally.

Refreshments will be provided afterwards in Crover House, Lough Sheelin, Mountnugent, Co. Cavan, A82 P2D9. The event is supported and funded by Cavan County Council Heritage and Biodiversity offices. Contact cflood@cavancoco for further details and to book attendance.

Please be mindful of biosecurity protocols on site and proximity to water course for own safety. Demonstrations will be on shore with collected samples however. Short walk from hotel venue to shore side site. Depending on weather, dress appropriately.
