Rural and Urban Heritage, and the Roads in Between

16, 23 Lúnasa, 10rn - 1in

  • Nenagh Tourist Office
  • Banba Square, Nenagh
  • E45 NY26
  • Co. Tiobraid Árann

The idea behind this event is to showcase two of North Tipperary’s heritage sites, exploring the countryside in between via eBike.

The group will meet at Banba Square, Nenagh, and cycle out to the church at Killodiernan. Here, we will view the ruins of the 12th Century church. There was a major conservation effort to save this building during the 1970s, which not only preserved the building for future generations but also uncovered evidence that there was a much earlier building on the same site.

We will then return to Nenagh, where we will visit the Nenagh Gaol. This was built in the 19th Century, and originally consisted of a number of wings, of which only one remains. The purpose of this section of the tour will be to highlight the planned conservation work which aims to open parts of the remaining building to the public, as well as discussing the history of this imposing building.

This event is free of charge to participants, and is funded by Tipperary County Council.

Under 18s are welcome, but must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and must be at least 5'2" in order to be able to ride the smallest eBike. The eBikes make the cycling simple, and there are no major climbs on this route, so it is suitable for anyone with a moderate level of fitness. We will tailor the speed of cycling to the abilities of the group.
