Rooted in Willow

Growing Wild and Erin's Green are delighted to run 'Rooted in Willow', part-funded through the Kildare County Council Community Heritage Grant Scheme.

Willow is an important part of our natural heritage and this hands-on course will explore the many traditional uses of this versatile native tree.

Participants will learn how to establish a willow coppice, create a living willow fence and gain practical skills in the management and use of willow.

Willow coppice installation and management
Living willow fence construction

This workshop forms part of the wider Living Heritage Willow Project – Rooted in Willow, which is supported through the Kildare County Council Community Heritage Grant Scheme. Participants attending the National Heritage Week event on 16 August 2026 will gain practical experience in willow coppice installation, management and living willow fence construction.

Those who wish to continue developing their skills will also have the option of attending a follow-up training day on 13 September 2026, focusing on garden obelisk construction, willow hurdles and live edging.
