Step into the RCC’s Drop-in, Hands-on Art Room, a free creative space where children, families and visitors of all ages can explore this year’s National Heritage Week theme, Heritage at Risk, through making, imagining and play.
Inspired by the exhibitions currently on display, the Art Room encourages visitors to think about the landscapes, traditions, stories and places that matter to them. Using a wide range of art materials, participants can create their own responses to questions such as: What makes a place special? What should we protect? What do we want future generations to inherit?
Throughout Heritage Week, the space will evolve as each visitor contributes to a growing community artwork. Every drawing, sculpture and collage becomes part of a collective installation, celebrating the idea that heritage is not only something we preserve from the past but something we continue to shape through creativity, participation and shared experience.
Designed as an informal, self-guided activity, the Art Room offers an accessible introduction to contemporary art while encouraging conversation about the natural and cultural heritage that surrounds us. Whether you’re visiting for five minutes or an afternoon, everyone is invited to leave their mark and help create an artwork that reflects the imagination and creativity of our community.
