Preserving Irish online cultural heritage through web archiving

19 Lúnasa, 3in - 4in

  • Royal Irish Academy
  • 19 Dawson Street
  • D02 HH58
  • Co. Baile Átha Cliath

Join the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) and guest lecturer Dr. Sharon Healy to learn more about the preservation of digital heritage on the web, including a demonstration of DRI's web archiving tool for preserving Irish websites for long-term reusability. The event will discuss the importance of websites as heritage artefacts, why they are at-risk digital content, and what is being done nationally to preserve them. We will also highlight unique web resources now available in the Repository, which document an evolving history of digital presentation formats for Irish social and cultural data.

Participants will leave with practical tips for preparing websites of all shapes and sizes for preservation that they can apply to their own digital media.

Who is this for? Anyone interested in digital heritage, involved in the creation and management of a website in which they share research, promote their work, or engage with an audience. We further encourage anyone who would like to learn more about our work at DRI to attend and meet our friendly staff.

The event is free and open to the public but we kindly ask that you register your attendance in advance.

The Royal Irish Academy is partially accessible by wheelchair, and other accommodations may be available upon request. Please contact accessofficer@ria.ie for more information.
