Presentation on the Conservation of Furniture

In 2026 we are delighted to be in a position to conserve and repair a number of hugely important and significant collection pieces held at Fota House, which are original to the property and connected to the Smith Barry estates including 10 early 19th century crested and carved walnut hall chairs, an 18th century Irish giltwood and gesso table, a pair of bronze early 19th century candelabra, two gesso and giltwood pier tables and a pair of decorative gilt wall sconces.

These conservation interventions will protect these items for the future and ensure that they can be safely displayed for our visitors to enjoy.
