Join Nature Network Ireland this Heritage Week for an engaging and informative event at Griston Bog, Ballylanders, Co. Limerick as we explore the vital connections between peatlands and climate change. Through a guided walk and interactive learning, discover how these unique ecosystems play a powerful role in climate regulation, biodiversity and water management.

Griston Bog, a restored lowland raised bog, is a rich natural habitat and an outdoor classroom. This unique site offers the perfect backdrop to learn how peatlands are among the world’s most effective carbon sinks, storing more carbon per hectare than forests. When healthy, they help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect water quality, and mitigate flooding by absorbing rainfall. But they’re also fragile ecosystems, sensitive to climate shifts like warmer winters and earlier springs, which disrupt wildlife patterns and threaten biodiversity.

This event includes a short guided walk, hands-on resources and take-home materials designed to inspire action. Whether you're a nature lover, student, or curious visitor, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of why peatlands matter and how you can help protect them.
