Our Woodland Heritage with the Native Woodland Trust: Ballinakelly Wood

Join the Native Woodland Trust for a special family-friendly event celebrating Ireland’s natural heritage at Ballinakelly Wood — their newest nature reserve. Taking place on Saturday, August 17th, 2025, this guided walk, led by Jeremy Casey, invites you to explore ancient woodland trails, discover historic structures, and encounter some of the oldest trees in Ireland.

The walk will highlight the rich biodiversity of the reserve, offering insights into the native plants and wildlife that thrive in this timeless habitat. You'll also hear fascinating folklore connected to the woodland, adding a cultural layer to the natural beauty.

The event begins at 10:30 AM at Duckett's Grove Car Park, where participants will meet before carpooling to Ballinakelly Wood. After the walk, all are welcome to return to Duckett's Grove for tea, coffee, and a relaxed conversation.

This free event is open to families and nature lovers of all ages. It’s a great opportunity to learn, connect with the land, and support the ongoing protection of Ireland’s ancient woodlands.
