Looking for something to do as a family this Heritage Week? Pop into Carlow County Museum and try their Museum Detective Family Activity Quiz. The Detective Quiz leads you through three of the Museums four galleries with a series of clues to help you complete the crossword. Among hundreds of objects you will encounter the 16th century effigy of Robert Hartpole, Constable of Carlow Castle; John Tyndall, Carlow’s Man of Science; the magnificent hand carved pulpit from Carlow Cathedral and the original printing press from the Nationalist newspaper.
As part of your adventure also discover a wide collection of items and artefacts from Carlow county including:
the original gallows trapdoor from Carlow Gaol; items from Carlow’s Sugar Factory, which operated for almost 80 years; the smoking pipe of Captain Myles Keogh, killed at the Battle of Little Big Horn; a 340-million-year-old fossilized squid; a display on St. Willibrord, an English monk who trained in Carlow before becoming the Patron Saint of Luxembourg; the last cigarette smoked by and the Death Mask of Kevin Barry, an 18-year-old medical student who was executed for his role in the Irish War of Independence and so much more!
