Millside Tales and Streamwatch

Located at the beautiful and scenic location of the Falls at Ballisodare, Co. Sligo, Ballisodare Fishing Club is hosting a special event for Heritage Week encompassing tales and photographs of the historical village of Ballisodare which is rich in heritage from the building of a church by St. Feichin in the 6th century through to more recent times when significant mining took place, together with construction of a port, flour mills and a railway connecting Ballisodare to Sligo and Dublin. This heritage aspect of the event is being presented by local historian Wendy Lyons.

This will be followed by a "Streamwatch" session - taking a closer look at the hidden world of our rivers with a hands-on, family friendly investigation of small creatures living in our streams and learn about what they can tell us about water quality and river health. This is being presented by Sligo ATU's Environmental Science Department.

A tour of the fishery will also be available, explaining the introduction of salmon to the system, construction of the fish passes, habitat improvement, current technology being deployed to monitor quality etc.
