
Michael Dwyer 200 Bus Tour
Join us on a one day guided bus tour to explore places in West Wicklow associated with Michael Dwyer 'The Wicklow Chief' and renowned 1798 rebellion leader. Starting and finishing at Glenmalure and visiting Barravove, Glen of Imaal, Dywers Cottage, Derrynamuck, passing many other sites along the Military Road including Drumgoff and Aghavannagh Barracks, as well as the villages of Dunlavin and Rathdangan.
A highlight will be a special re-enactment of Dwyer's narrow escape at Derrynamuck courtesy of The Lord Edwards Own Re-enactment Group.
This event is supported by the Heritage Council and the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council in partnership with the West Wicklow Historical Society, Glenmalure PURE Mile group, and Donard and Rathdangan History groups
There is a ticket charge of €11.70 which will include lunch in Dunlavin and bus
This event is day 2 of a two day programme; Michael Dwyer 200 taking place 23-24th Aug organised by Arklow Municipal District to commemporate 200 years since the death in Australia of Michael Dwyer in 1825. The full day programme on Saturday 23rd Aug includes a number of talks tracing Dwyers early life, his part in 1798 and its aftermath, his exile and endiring legacy in Australia.
