Lough Gara: A Lake Through Time
Join us for a series of informal talks and a short ramble along the shore of Lough Gara to discuss the archaeological and natural heritage of the lake, along with reflecting on what the lake means to local people today.
Speakers will include Sam Moore of the Applied Archaeology section, ATU Sligo, Conor O'Connell local artist and creator of the Lough Gara: Past and Present exhibition (in association with the Ballinaderreen Men's Shed and supported by a Roscommon County Council Creative Roscommon bursary), as well as representatives from the National Parks and Wildlife Service, Breeding Waders project, and the Local Authority Waters Programme.
If we are lucky we may get a glimpse of our two resident White-tailed Sea Eagles; “G” and “Fiona”.
After about an hour at Lough Gara we will retire to O’Dowd's Lakeview Bar in Monasteraden for some refreshments and further chats about the lake, where displays on the archaeology, natural heritage and art will be on view.
We hope the evening will be a networking opportunity for those interested in Lough Gara, to exchange ideas and talk about the future of the lake.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable walking footwear.
In case of inclement weather, the entire event will take place in O'Dowd's Lakeview Bar in Monasteraden (Eircode F45XY46).
Outdoor location: Island Road car park Lough Gara.
