Longford-Westmeath Argentine Emigration Oral History Project

Longford and Westmeath County Councils are jointly running an oral history project to record stories about emigration from both counties to Argentina, mainly the period 1820-1920. The project is being run in partnership with the Longford-Westmeath Argentina Society. Adrian Roche of The History Trail, the consultant working on the project, will speak about progress to-date and outline some of the stories that have been recorded. Interviewees have also been asked to allow the digitisation of any photographs or other documents they hold. Once completed, the recordings and other files will be lodged with both local authorities and will become important sources for those who are researching the subject.
