Learn to Make Nettle Cordage. Meet the Trees and Plants Along the Sidella Laneway

Join Clare for a walk along the Sidella Laneway near Dundalk, and learn how to make natural cordage from nettle fibres. Cordage has many practical uses and is traditionally made in Ireland using nettles, and from other plants too. Making cordage is an enjoyable and hands on way to connect with our heritage, ancestry and the landscape around us.

We will walk along the Sidella laneway, meeting the trees and plants along the way. Clare will identify some of these and share about their significance in Irish culture and folklore, their medicinal values and Irish names.

We will gather nettles and together we will process these nettles into a strong, durable cordage.

Please wear comfortable footwear for walking and bring anything you may need over the 3 hour workshop. We will be sitting on the ground while making the cordage so if you would prefer to sit on something please bring this along.

We will meet at the Texaco petrol station on the Ardee road and walk from there.

There is space for parking at Mounthamilton, just west of the Brookville service station on the same side of the road. The service station is about a 15 minute walk from Dundalk town centre.
