Discover the Wild Birds of Rosscarbery Estuary

16 Lúnasa, 11rn - 1in

  • Causeway opposite Celtic Ross Hotel
  • Rosscarbery
  • Co. Corcaigh - Contae

The Branch invites everyone interested in the natural heritage of West Cork to spend a few hours discovering the fascinating wild birds of Rosscarbery Estuary.

Join us on the causeway opposite The Celtic Ross Hotel, Rosscarbery, at any time between 11:00am and 1:00pm. During the event, we’ll introduce you to the special groups of birds that use the estuary, explain how and why they use it, and explore the remarkable journeys many of them make to reach this seemingly unassuming “bit of mud” — and why places like Rosscarbery Estuary are so important to them.

The event is particularly suitable for families and children, as well as anyone with an interest in the wildlife of the estuary. Between September and March, Rosscarbery Estuary is part of the monthly Irish Wetland Bird Survey (I-WeBS), and budding young birdwatchers will have the opportunity to put their bird identification and counting skills to the test. There may even be prizes for the sharpest-eyed observers!

Bring binoculars if you have them, but don’t worry if you don’t. The Branch will have binoculars available to borrow, and spotting scopes will be on hand to give you a much closer look at the birds.

Come along, discover what lives on the estuary, and find out why this small corner of West Cork matters to birds from much further afield.
