Launch of the Kindlestown Castle Local Biodiversity Action Plan (led by OPW)

Lorcan Scott, OPW Head of Biodiversity, will lead a site walk and talk at Kindlestown Castle to launch the Kindlestown Castle local Biodiversity Action Plan, with Delgany Tidy Towns.

The Biodiversity Action Plan has been drafted by Office of Public Works (OPW) with Community Support.

Delgany Heritage Village is proud if its Biodiversity and Natural Heritage which has been the foundation of its development for 1,000s of years, including the Glen of the Downs and Three Trout River nature sanctuary, the megalith settlements and ancient hillforts, monastic village since 5-6th Century, the Viking battle of Delgany 1022, the La Touche Bellevue Demesne, Pennick's Nurseries, Eamon and Laillí De Buitléar Wildlife Champions, the 1997-99 Eco-Witnesses / Eco-Warriors, the 2018 / 2019 Youth activists who declared the National and International Climate and Biodiversity Emergency and Mobilisation.

Kinsdlestown Castle has stood in the centre of local Delgany natural heritage since at least the 13th Century, commanding the surrounding wetlands and river and rich countryside. All this natural heritage is fast disappearing but local efforts are underway to preserve, protect and restore our local biodiversity for the community and the next generations.
