Inniskeen Fields Names Project

We propose an historic tour through Inniskeen. Initially to gather at Drumcatton Chapel Sunday at noon 23rd August to commence our historical walk.

There will be an introduction by local historian Thomas Ruddy and then a talk on Drumcatton and the history of the surrounding area. The tour group will then proceed to Inniskeen Village, via Staire na Gadai, The Bog Road and Ednamo. En route local placenames and field names will be pointed out/discussed.

In the Round Tower Church, a lecture will be presented by Grace Maloney - Fieldnames Project Coordinator for Monaghan County Council. The townland maps of the Parish of Inniskeen will be on display and we will invite people present to record field names, mass paths, mass rocks, rock art, holy wells and stories of the area.

This will be an introduction to the Field Names Project, which we then intend rolling out across the parish with the assistance of our local primary schools and other groups within the parish comprising Macra na Feirme, The Irish Farmers Association, the GAA etc
