Join Galway Traveller Movement for a special Heritage Week event inspired by the If Hazel Could Talk programme, delivered in collaboration with artist Debbie Reilly, Ballinasloe Library and Misleór Festival of Nomadic Cultures
This event offers an opportunity to explore and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Traveller community through stories, traditional knowledge and shared experience. Participants will learn about the significance of the hazel tree in Traveller life, including its use in foraging and traditional practices, and discover the role of the wattle tent as part of Ireland's travelling heritage.
Members of the Traveller community will share stories of life on the road, offering personal insights into traditions, customs and ways of life that form an important part of Ireland's cultural heritage. Visitors will also have the opportunity to sample traditional Traveller food, including freshly made griddle bread.
This Heritage Week event is an opportunity for cultural exchange, encouraging greater understanding and appreciation of Traveller heritage while celebrating the living traditions, knowledge and experiences of the Traveller community.
