To celebrate Heritage Week and highlight the historic links between France and Cork, Dr Alicia St. Leger will give an illustrated talk on the Huguenot connections with Cork. Dr St. Leger is the author of Silver, Sails and Silk: Huguenots in Cork 1685–1850. Around 10,000 Huguenots settled in Ireland, with significant communities in Dublin, Cork and Portarlington. Cork’s French Quarter once was the focus for the Huguenot community, with a dedicated church on what is now French Church Street and a Huguenot Burial Ground on Carey’s Lane. All welcome.
