Phoenix Cricket Club Celebrates 50 Years of Women’s Cricket with Historic Exhibition Match and Talk.
Phoenix Cricket Club, Ireland’s oldest cricket club, is proud to celebrate 50 years of women’s cricket with a unique afternoon of sport and storytelling on Monday 18th August. The festivities will feature an engaging illustrated talk “Bowled Over: Women’s Cricket Through the Ages.” that will chart the evolution of women’s involvement in the sport — from the first recorded match in 1745 to the founding of women's cricket in Ireland and Phoenix Cricket Club, through to the rise of international stars and the ongoing journey towards equality and recognition in modern cricket. This will be followed by a lively exhibition cricket match played in period costume.
This is a celebration not just of our past, but of the energy and commitment of generations of women who’ve helped shape the game we love.
Admission is free and all are welcome. Period dress is encouraged for spectators! Refreshments will be available. We are a wheelchair accessible club.
