County Kerry is widely known for its geological heritage. The landscape vistas of the Ring of Kerry are known throughout the world, the karst landscape of north Kerry is varied and wondrous, and quarries such as those at Ardfert and Lixnaw point to a long and interesting history of manipulation of the county’s geological resource.
Kerry also has many fine but underappreciated geological sites.
Geological Survey Ireland’s are completing a Geological Heritage Audit of the county, which is running from Autumn 2024 to Autumn 2025.
The exhibition showcase some of the results from that audit, and raises the profile of geological heritage in County Kerry.
